Dionisis Kavallieratos’ sculptures look like oversized awkwardly distorted and reformed gadgets that seem to belong to some kind of a neo-Pop universe.
Merging the boundaries of art and sub-culture, through a rather liberating kitsch vocabulary, featuring fluorescent paint, mirrors, vibrant colors, strange shapes and a tendency to fool the rules of nature and the viewer, Kavallieratos clearly belongs to a new generation of pop culture enthusiasts.
Equipped with detailed knowledge of comics, animation films, and other underground obsessions, his surrealistic and excellently crafted sculptures are full of sarcastic humor and ironic comments on mass culture, male stereotypes and violence, but at the same time they become this young man’s self - made oversized toys in his imaginary world.
Dionisis Kavallieratos, in his first solo show, seems to be discovering his own artistic language and aesthetics, reflecting his personality, trying to clearly “mark” his territory and confront the art establishment.
