Irini Miga
Wittingly Sparkling Greedy Dimples
Private view: Thursday 20 December 2007, 8 p.m.
Exhibition Dates: 20 December – 19 January 2008
The Breeder is pleased to announce the first upcoming solo exhibition of Irini Miga in Athens titled, Wittingly Sparkling Greedy Dimples.
Irini Miga’s drawings and sparkling clay sculptures weave a web of intricate narratives, which stem from her personal myths, yet relate to a wider contemporary culture. Irini Miga’s work embraces sentimentality, transforming realistic subjects into hyper-surrealistic hybrids, and offering a dreamy reality which interacts with that of the viewer. Her works invite a closer inspection. Delicate ribbons and fragile jewels which bridge the narratives, enhance the preciousness of dreaminess. Drawn from the deeper part of the unconscious, stοries of love, passion, desire and fear produce a personal and aesthetic path influenced by Freudian symbolism.
At The Breeder, Irini Miga presents a series of sculptures and drawings in which the key for decoding these works lies in both the imaginary and attributed tales of the interactive viewer, which follow the associative sequence of the images.
Irini Miga’s drawings are constructed with immense detail and precision, amassing images, which connect in a sequence that arrives at an elaborate narration. She composes a play between narrativity and visual experience.
Irini Miga creates delicate and detailed images, which seek to capture the gaze of the other.
